Continuous Improvement

Our journey towards sustainability and minimising our environmental impact is an ongoing process. At Silk Leppard, we are continuously seeking ways to improve and stay ahead of industry trends in sustainable and ethical processes. We remain dedicated to educating ourselves, exploring new eco-friendly fabrics, and actively adopting technologies that support our vision of creating long-lasting, eye-catching garments while reducing our overall environmental impact.

Embracing New Eco-Friendly Fabrics

In a world where natural resources are finite, environmental sustainability requires us to adopt a mindful approach that focuses on consuming fewer resources and utilising them with utmost efficiency. With the emergence of innovative and sustainable fabrics like pineapple leather, our anticipation grows as we look forward to incorporating them into our future collections.

We acknowledge the significant environmental impact of synthetic fibres and, therefore, we will continually explore and research alternate avenues to increase the use of environmentally sustainable fabrics. Although we face challenges regarding pricing, quality, and scalability, our dedication to learning and experimenting with sustainable fabric options remains unwavering. Our goal is to ensure that our garments not only stand the test of time but also embody environmental consciousness.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are actively working towards obtaining official Woolmark certification for all our wool fabric garments. The Woolmark tick symbolises durability, performance, and exceptional quality, reflecting our commitment to producing outstanding products.

In our utilisation of viscose, our objective is to only use recycled viscose or source it from suppliers approved by an FSC-certified wood pulp and Canopy-approved supplier. Meaning it has only come from forests that are managed in accordance with strict standards, protecting them from deforestation by maintaining forest cover, conserving biodiversity, engaging Indigenous communities and that are supported by rigorous audits.

Lenzing™ Ecovero™ sets the standard for sustainable viscose fabric production, guaranteeing that the fibres used originate from certified sustainable forests. EcoVero's viscose is crafted using responsibly sourced wood from controlled sources, meeting the criteria set forth by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes). In comparison to conventional viscose, the production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fabric significantly reduces our environmental footprint.

Circular Fashion and Recycling Initiatives

We embrace the concept of circular fashion, which aims to responsibly and effectively utilise clothes, shoes, and accessories for as long as possible before safely returning them to the biosphere. While we excel in the initial stages of circular fashion, such as design intention and quality craftsmanship, we are also committed to supporting our garments throughout their lifecycle. To achieve minimal impact, we plan to introduce initiatives that promote reuse and recycling. This includes exploring options to reuse and recycle yarn from old garments for future collections and implementing take-back and/or rental schemes.

Traceability and Transparency

While we are proud of our efforts in maintaining traceability and transparency in our boutique manufacturing process, we acknowledge that complete transparency can sometimes become unclear when it comes to outsourcing trims and fabrics. In the future, we strive to achieve a more traceable and transparent manufacturing process for every item we import. We are dedicated to ensuring that our supply chain aligns with our sustainability goals and that all trims and fabrics meet our rigorous standards.
